Cervical Cancer   introduction

Cervix is the organ connecting the uterus and vagina. The cancer formed in this area is called cervical cancer. The part of cervix closer to uterus is called endocervix. And the part closer to vagina is called ectocervix. The part between these two is called the transformation zone. Cancer is found to occur profoundly in this transformation zone.

Types: There are two types

• Squamous cell carcinoma

• Adenocarcinoma.

Squamous Cell carcinoma is the predominantly occurring cervical cancer accounting to about 80%. This primitively form is called dysplasia, a precancerous condition.
