General examination like pulse, breath rate, blood pressure and temperature are the primary test being done. The amount of dehydration will be estimated and the abdominal area will be examined for pain.

• Rectal Examination can be done to analyze the presence of break in the rectal wall. For this the physician may insert a gloved finger inside the rectum and analyze the rectal area.

• Sample of stool is taken to analyze for the presence of blood and mucus. The test is also done to find out the particular micro organism and toxin causing illness.

• Dehydration is analyzed by testing urine samples.

• Blood test is also recommended.

• X-Ray or CT scan is also recommended in certain cases if the physician suspects the reason to be any other illness.
