Food Poisoning   introduction

Food poisoning is usually caused due to eating contaminated food. The food is contaminated by microorganisms (bacterium, virus, and parasite) or toxins. Staphylococcus or E.coli is the major cause of food poisoning among reported cases. This is commonly mild and very rare deadly. It is characterized with nausea, abdominal cramping, vomiting and diarrhea which develop with in 48 hours of taking the contaminated food. Depending on the contamination and the toxicity produced by the micro organism chills, fever, bloody stools, dehydration or nervous system damage is observed.

Risk factors:

There are several factors that can increase the risk of food poisoning include:
 
• A weakened immune system

• Lack of Hygiene

• Cross contamination of food

• Improper food storage or handling
