Question (Posted on :  18 Oct 2008 )

The is question is about My Father. My Father is of age 62. He had undergone different surgeries listed below:1. Open drianage over right kidney.(2001)2. Right side Lung decortication.(2003)3. Gall Bladder Stones removed thru laproscopic.(2003)4. Extra lesion cleared over spinal cord.(2003-october) Before spinal cord operation he was not able to walk without any help. After the operation and giving enough physiotheraphy he is now able to walk by himself with his elbow crutch. He is a long diabetic patient. Recently he has BP. The tablets he is intaking are : 1. Wokex 3(1-0-0) 2. methyl cobol(1-0-1)3. Neurobin (1-0-1)4. Loram(25mg) (1-0-0) Since the operation has been done over spinal cord and he also been attacked with spine TB he was advised to tak on Wokex 3. He is taking around 8-9 months. We have stopped going to regular check up the surgeon who had done the spinal operation about 2 months ago. The intaking of TB tablets cause damages to Livers. But recently i took the LFT, ESR, Sugar test in which the report says they are normal. But, I am aware of that the tablets should be stopped in one time.I want to know the actual duration to these TB tablets or the spine tb disease. How much time it takes to cure these disease. Whether we can stop it now of with any consultation of the concerned Doctors. Please advice me how to stop this or suggest a correct doctors to get the treatment.
Doctor's Response (Posted on : 18 Oct 2008 )

In spinal tb, the usual course is 2 months on 4 drugs and 2 drugs for 8 to 9 months. At the end of 8 to 9 months depending upon the clinical outcome and blood investigations like ESR your surgeon would be able to decide on continuing or stopping these medicines.I suggest you review with your surgeon who would also like to get some xrays of the operated area to determine if adequate bony fusion has occured.
