Question (Posted on :  13 Oct 2008 )

My question is addressed to any paediatrician and relates to Language learning capabilities of infants ..when do we expose the child to other than the mother tongue ie at what age --is there any ideal time frame for that .
Doctor's Response (Posted on : 13 Oct 2008 )

Usually children learn to speak well around 3 years eventhough they start talking around 1 to 1 1/2 years. After 3 years where they mix with other peer group neighbours they have maximum chances of picking up other languages depending on the natural opportunities provided for them. In my opinion an average child or a bright child can easily pick up to speak other language around 3-5 Years of age.
