Your relative is suffering from late stage kidney disease . Renal replacement therapy is a term used to describe life-supporting treatments for renal failure.#13;#10;#13;#10;It includes:#13;#10;#13;#10; hemodialysis,#13;#10; peritoneal dialysis,#13;#10; hemofiltration and#13;#10; renal transplantation.#13;#10;#13;#10;Any of these treatments do not cure chronic kidney disease; they are only palliative (to reduce symptoms and complications) treatments.#13;#10;#13;#10;Yes, kidney transplant is an option. Kidney or renal transplant needs a donor (live or deceased), and if there is no live donor available your relative has to be on dialysis until a suitable deceased donor kidney is available. But if your relative has a heart or lung condition they can not do the transplant. Again transplant patients have to control the diabetes or it will damage the new kidney also.#13;#10;#13;#10;Following a successful transplant patients live on the average 10 - 15 years in young patients and 4-5 years in patients above 75 years.
