Question (Posted on :  03 Oct 2008 )

I am suffering with a blood plot(puss) below my Color bone. I have contacted my nearest doctor in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh. He started the treatment and taken the blood sample from the infected area.He told me that the plotted area still very hard, it to be soft then will do the surgery for cleaning the puss. He gave me the antibiotic medicine(tablets) for this. after one week the puss area still hard and not softened with the medicine. Now since three days I had one more plot in upper part of my leg(below the stomach), the doctor is saying that " Scetific scamia " in the blood, due to less blood percentage in the body. Puss cells in the blood. Now he gave me the injection course for next three days and sayig that both the area's to be darained through the Surgery. Can you tell me, the procedure followed by the doctor is correct? and how to remove the puss cells in the blood. Is there any need of any other tests required. Pls guide me if any specilist in Hyderabad for this Case. Based on your advise, I can go to Hyderabad. I am ready to attend any doctor in Hyderabad. Pls advise
Doctor's Response (Posted on : 03 Oct 2008 )

From the description of the symptoms and signs you have given, it appears most likely to be a case of tuberculous infection (called 'cold abscess'). The other possibilities are actinomycosis and multiple pyemic abscesses; septicaemia appears to be very unlikely as it is a serious condition which leads to severe prostration and the patient becomes bedridden in 1 or 2 days and often require hospitalisation and treatment with expensive antibiotics and anti-shock therapy. We usually do not comment on the correctness or otherwise of the procedure followed by your doctor and he would have done everything with the best intention of relieving your problem as per his past experience. In case you need to go in for a second opinion, I would suggest that you approach one of the surgical consultants attached to Osmania university at Hyderabad or Apollo hospital, Hyderabad. who would be able to get at the correct diagnosis with some more relevant investigations and would be able to give the best advice.
