Question (Posted on :  23 Oct 2008 )

I am a 34 year old woman residing in Toronto, Canada. In beginning of 2006, I experienced irregular bleeding during my periods and then my periods totally stopped by June 2006. When I consulted my doctor and did blood tests, they told me that I am menupausal since my FSH was 99. It was a bitter shock to me as I was planning for my second child. I have one son who is 4years old and I had no problem at all conceiving him. Since then I am undergoing naturopathic treatment and accupuncture for last 6 months. Please advise if there is anything possible to get my periods back as I have never heard of anyone getting their menupause at such an early age. My mother had her menupause at 45 years. I dont smoke or drink. I would be extremely grateful if there is anything you could do to help me or advise me. I am Canadian immigrant and have been living in Canada since 2004. If needed, I could even come to USA to meet personally.I am very frustrated and lost and not able to come to terms with the fact that this is happening to me. Please advise.
Doctor's Response (Posted on : 23 Oct 2008 )

From your question, I understand you have been told that you have attained menopause since you are not getting your periods your FSH level is 99.Usually menopause age is 45 - 55 years and also one gets menopause at the same age as her mother. I advise you to see your gynae findout the reasons for your early menopause. Also, HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) can make you get your periods. You can also go to an Infertility Clinic find out if you can conceive with HRT.Also findout, if you are fit to undergo treatment for fertility. You should also undergo investigations to find out if there are any associated gynaecological problems.Hope this helps. You are welcome to come back for more advice. In such a case, please give me more info by answering the attached questionnaire. QUESTIONNAIRE - Q1 which doctor (speciality) you have consulted? Q2 which diferent test were conducted? Q3 what were the results of the tests? Q4 what reasons were given to you by your doctor for this situation? Q5 Any other detail you may want to give us?
