Question (Posted on :  23 Oct 2008 )

I am 25 years old and 10 weeks pregnant. I recently got the TORCH tests done. Following are the results: What do they mean? I have an appointment with my doctor after a week. I am a bit worried to know what do these results mean against the mentioned normal ranges. Can you help interpret? Thanks. Doctor's Response (Posted on : 23 Oct 2008 )

You seem to have some unncessary anxieties. Why was the TORCH test adviced to you in the first place? Unless there is history of some pregnancy complications or any antenatal maternal infection there is no need for routine TORCH test. The TORCH test looks at the response from your body to these four infections and not actual presence of these germs in your body. The IgG represent the long term response to any infection and is not diagnistic of active present infection unless a second test of IgG shows more than two-three fold increase in the level. So get the check up and consultation from your doctor and ask questions if you are not satified.
